SELF-CARE

DURATION: 8 WEEKS
4 WEEK DISCUSSION, 4 WEEK REHEARSAL

This is the signature workshop of the Wildwood. Just the same as securing an oxygen mask, we must ensure our own health before addressing the needs of others. This workshop will give you tools, in the form of critical thinking and mentalities, to help you on your journey of self-care. Through a variety of group discussions and activities, as well as an all-encompassing final production, this workshop will address:

  • Universal “brokenness”
  • Integrative thinking
  • Triangulation and transference in relationships
  • Boundaries and self discovery

Once we begin our journeys, it is our responsibility to spark the same inspiration in others. A one-act performance created by director and playwright staff will summarize group discussions in an artistic way that may relate group findings to our larger community.

THEATRICAL BOOK CLUB

DURATION: 8 WEEKS
6 WEEK STUDY, 2 WEEK COMPOSITION

Sometimes, the easiest way to start the journey of self reflection is to hold up a mirror to literature. The Theatrical Book Club will begin the conversation of reflection by studying playwrights and their greatest characters. With an emphasis on inherent character traits and their influence on the plot, this workshop will encourage participants to pinpoint traits and aspects of character that relate to clinical mental health diagnoses. Every two weeks, this workshop will:

  • Read aloud a play of theatrical staff’s choosing

  • Discuss the difference between character-plot vs plot-character influences

  • Discuss traits of clinical diagnoses

  • Consider empathetic relations

All participants are encouraged to push comfort zones by daring to relate aspects of themselves or their world to the characters and diagnoses discussed. We may not ever truly know another’s experience, but we may certainly venture to understand through our empathetic relations. The last two weeks of this workshop will be spent compiling a catalogue of characters and character traits based on the clinical diagnoses discussed.

MUSICAL SENTIMENT

DURATION: 8 WEEKS
4 WEEK EXPLORATION, 4 WEEK REHEARSAL

It has been said that music is a language we all understand, so why not use it as such? This workshop will focus on the concrete ways in which we may feel, interpret, and describe various emotional effects of music on the human condition. With music’s inherent diversity in style, technique, and sound, the Musical Sentiment Workshop will highlight underlying similarities which may provide clues to soothing the savage beast of human emotion. In this workshop, we will explore:

  • Empathetic reactions — both physical and emotional

  • Emotional awareness

  • Effects of background music

  • Empathetic meaning behind lyrics

We all have stories to tell, regardless if they are told in words or not. During the 4 week exploration, a short movement piece will be created by theatrical staff based on the songs and emotions expressed.
